|

When I emerged xfree and tried configuring using x86config, it refered to a monitor documentation file describing settings for paritcular monitors.
This file was not available at the location specified or in my instance of Gentoo....
Does anyone have a link to that Monitor Database?
Thanks for the help _________________ Boredom is a personal Defect

If you're looking for the spec on your monitor just type something like this into google:
Code: | samsung 20 gls specifications |

Been there, done that.... No luck
My monitor is a Dell MD990.
There used to be a database available which had the info available. It was on line (I know because when I built a Linux System from scratch in 1998 it existed!). _________________ Boredom is a personal Defect

Thanks. It was a great link, but didn't have my monitor. Dell may have "repackaged" another manufacturer's monitor and called it the MD990 ..... Good ol' MD 20-20..... _________________ Boredom is a personal Defect

Thanks a thousand.... That's exactly what I needed.
My plan is to get X86Free up and play around with it for a week or so. Learn as much about configuring it, what files are associated with it etc. Then, emerge kde this week-end (I read in the posts that you might as well read a novel during it.... I plan to do it overnight Friday...)
There are several reasons for my wanting to build Gentoo:
- I wanted to optimize my system.
- I also wanted to work with Linux in much more depth than I have been recently.
- I am really impressed with the Portage packaging and update system.
It's take a while (during evenings and multiple rebuilds) to get to the point where I am now. I may as well take much more time working in depth to really learn Gentoo and Linux.
Then, hopefully, I can begin contributing to helping others on this great forum. _________________ Boredom is a personal Defect
