Hi, long time no see. Today I finally found some time to make a nitro patch set. It's been a while, but the result is sweet.
I know the final 2.6.11 Linux kernel is coming soon, but I just couldn't resist (sorry Darckness )
What's in it?

Download
ebuild
patch file
How to install
Install directions courtesy of BlinkEye:
| Code: |
1. download the ebuild
2. mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources
3. mv the ebuild to /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources (or wherever your PORTDIR_OVERLAY points to)
4. open /etc/portage/package.keywords (if it doesn't exist create it)
5. add "sys-kernel/nitro-sources ~x86" without the quotes and with the appropriate architecture (for me its ~x86")
6. ebuild nitro-sources-2.6.10-r4.ebuild digest
7. emerge nitro-sources
8. cd /usr/src/ and behold your nitro-sources
9. remerge any modules (nvidia...)

Darckness is busy with it, he didn't told me yet what it is .. but it will be probably in the next release.
This release would normally never been there, but I really wanted to create a nitro patch set after such a long time ... _________________ nitro-sources, because between stable and experimental there exists only speed

in menuconfig just type a "/" and search.
if it's not there, take the one from
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1994660#1994660
that's the one from -ac9 with /dev/hdXY not /dev/sdXY, i use it all the time... _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

Thanks seppe. My last most favorite nitro was 2.6.10-nitro4. Although it had some bugs with keycodes and VTs on my laptop, it was rock hard stable on my desktop.
Looks like this one is going to be the next favorite one. |

| Does anyone know if this kernel includes a fix for the slowdowns/hanging involving lots of hard drive access? I've been experiencing that on all the 2.6.11 nitros (with the exception of this one -- haven't tested yet). |

This kernel is rockin'.
I downloaded captive-ntfs from http://www.jankratochvil.net/ , and ran the installer, ran the captive-install-acquire and mounted and NTFS partition. All in about 120 seconds. Unbeleiveable.
Thank you Nitro developers for putting LUFS in the kernel... This is WAY BETTER than the Lufis->FUSE crap. oh my god.
Please Keep LUFS in the Nitro Kernel. I truly appreciate this.

Downloading in 5 mins...
Sounds like a lot of fun!
Ah, going to get some serious gaming done(almost a week since last time, big bad hdd crash)
So, when will I be able to change mouse polling on the fly?
EDIT: downloading 2.6.9-rc2-nitro4 instead, as i don't fancy downloading the full kernel(lost it to disk crash)
Going to download it when i get my adsl line...

Ah well darn. Staircase hasn't been very nice to me. You and love-sources have been working hard though I see.

This is fantastic. I don't know what you did, but I'm up 24+hrs with SMT and Reiser4. Added to that the LUFS stuff, and I'm in frickin' heaven.

I am not sure if this is related to nitro or 2.6.11_rc4, but I have issues compiling VMware. I was using Gentoo-dev-sources. Any ideas?
| Code: | *** Warning: "skb_copy_datagram" [/tmp/vmware-config1/vmnet-only/vmnet.ko] undefined!

insmod: error inserting '/tmp/vmware-config1/vmnet.o': -1 Unknown symbol in module
There is probably a slight difference in the kernel configuration between the
set of C header files you specified and your running kernel. You may want to
rebuild a kernel based on that directory, or specify another directory.

Welcome back seppe! Thanks for the new kernel. After four days of having absolutely nothing wrong with my system, I was getting rather bored. Unfortunately this kernel seems to be working perfectly also; oh well... _________________ "One of the major problems encountered in time travel is not that of accidentally becoming your own father or mother ... This is caused by 2.6.11_rc4 and not because of the nitro patches, and this should be fixed using the latest vmware
