Not so much a request, as a query:
I noticed that lufs is in the kernel, has anyone tried that with captive-ntfs? I'd love to build nitro onto a livecd, with the ability to toss it into a PC and do stuff instead of buggerin' around with winblows.

Gserack: I'll look into captive-ntfs.
sibov: I'm not sure why ts isn't working, but I'll do my best to resolve it for the next release. If it's an alsa-related issue then there's probably not a whole lot I can do though. _________________ There is no substitute for experience.

also, darckness, it may be futile (tell me if it is), but I'd still like to see my force-feedback patch work its way into the kernel
pretty please
PS. still waiting with bated breath for your INSANE mystery kernel. |

pifactorial: AUGH! YOU DIDN'T TELL ME THAT IT WAS THE INPUT PATCH FROM HELL!!!
Seriously though, I'll probably only add that in if I have a TON of free time. I'd basically have to update the whole thing to make it work with 2.6 which is a pain and takes a while. _________________ There is no substitute for experience.

Hmm, looks like rt candidate....
*Tiger683 spawns his kernel-hacking demons
EDIT:
@Pifactorial: hey, buddy, i think it might be unnecessary to port the driver.
you should take a look at the iforce module in the 2.6 kernels (since 2.6.7 or even erlier ?)
I'll try to find out where its being activated sometime later ....
cheers,
T
@ Darckness: lufs + captive are outdated. the new way to go is fuse + lufis ( aka. fuse->captive bridge)
I'll test it later, i use captive anyway.... ;P

Further to my "caught signal 11" problem with xorg, I've got it working on a UP machine but am still having problems on an SMP one. The machines also differed in that the working one was using a ~x86 version of xorg, but updating it on the dodgy machine didn't make any difference. I have still found no other clues as to what is causing this. |

whats the trick to getting the splash working with this kernel. I have just about everything working now, except the splash on boot and shutdown. It works wonderfully on 2.6.9-nitro4, I need this working as this laptop is used for demostration and the like.
Thanks |

I got the splash working on bootup. Now on to the problem with pcmcia. When I compile ide-cs as a module, the kernel complains on bootup about no being able to find the module. When I compile all pcmcia components into the kernel I still get hthe same error during the boot process. And the ultimate result is I cant access my microdrives. When I get a chance I will boot up on the problematic kernel for the complete message. |

Oh, please-oh-please leave LUFS in. I got it working with the slightest of effort with Seppe's 2.6.11-rc4-nitro1 kernel. This rocks so good it isn't even funny.
This is way better than that FUSE->Lufis stuff. Simple, easy, and direct. If someone wants captive-ntfs to work with lufs, they should really port it rather than bridge it.
I mean, Pity that LUFS is never going mainstream, and FUSE is, but until someone makes a real FUSE version instead of that bridge, I'm stickin' with LUFS.

I've been compiling iforce and all of the USB/HID stuff into my kernel since I got Gentoo. My joystick works almost perfectly, except whenever I try to do force feedback stuff, it tells me that it's not yet implemented in the kernel. I can live with it, it's just annoying for me. Maybe there's a quick hack to fix this? I don't know. Thanks for caring

How to install
Install directions courtesy of BlinkEye:
1. download the ebuild
2. mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources
3. mv the ebuild to /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources (or wherever your PORTDIR_OVERLAY points to)
4. open /etc/portage/package.keywords (if it doesn't exist create it)
5. add "sys-kernel/nitro-sources ~x86" without the quotes and with the appropriate architecture (for me its ~x86")
6. ebuild nitro-sources-2.6.11_rc4-r1.ebuild digest
Code: |
ebuild /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources/nitro-sources-2.6.11_rc4-r1.ebuild digest
!!! aux_get(): ebuild path for 'sys-kernel/nitro-sources-2.6.11_rc4-r1' not specified:
!!! None
!!! aux_get(): ebuild path for 'sys-kernel/nitro-sources-2.6.11_rc4-r1' not specified:
!!! None
doebuild(): aux_get() error reading sys-kernel/nitro-sources-2.6.11_rc4-r1; aborting.

try to cd to that directory first:
cd /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources
ebuild nitro-sources-someversion.ebuild digest _________________ nitro-sources, because between stable and experimental there exists only speed
