Is there a way to have modules installed under multiple kernel versions ?
and how to do that
alsa-drivers, nvidia, ... and so on

laso I tryed on my stable gentoo-sources (4.2.19) kernel to install
masked nvidia drivers 4219 i think) but system crashes after X starts
with junk screen. Only solution then is a hard reset. everything is stable
I wanted new nvidia driver because of theirs AGP 8x support. do I have to
installa a new kernel version aswell (VIA VT400 + Ti 4200 AGP 8x on AthlonXP 24+)

Hi PhanLord

you might already know this, but it should be mentioned that AGP 8x will not bring you any advantages in speed. If your card still supports it, i'd even stick to 2x, because it offers the highest stability.

the gentoo-sources should work well with your board...

I also have that problem! I fiddle around a lot with different kernels and it's a big annoyance with portage beeing to smart and cleaning away the modules that were built for one kernel when emerging them for a new... I used to have to reemerge them almost every time i booted into a new kernel.

Nowadays I do the alsa and nvidia thing manually without any usage of portage...

One thing you could try is to set AUTOCLEAN=no when emerging those packages.
