I installed Quake 2 and it starts with no problems in SVGA but OpenGL doesn't work. Can someone tell me how to get OpenGL. I have a GeForce 2MX.

taken from the nvidia driver readme

Quote:

Q: There are problems running Quake2.

A: Quake2 requires some minor setup to get it going. First, in the Quake2
directory, the install creates a symlink called libGL.so that points
at libMesaGL.so. This symlink should be removed or renamed. Then,
to run Quake2 in OpenGL mode, you would type: 'quake2 +set vid_ref glx
+set gl_driver libGL.so'. Quake2 does not seem to support any kind of
full-screen mode, but you can run your X server at whatever resolution
Quake2 runs at to emulate full-screen mode.

There are also a couple (well, at least one) source port projects, since id released the q2 source. The one I've tried that works for me is at http://www.icculus.org/quake2/

It might be best to grab it from CVS, but there's a pretty recent release version, too. You'll have to compile it. But that's a good thing ;)

I should note that I haven't actually gotten around to using gentoo yet, but this solved the same problem for me under Mandrake a couple months ago.

Anyone able to install this? It's supposed to be a better engine for Quake2

It's got particles and railgun types/colors etc, better graphics.
Didn't get it to work here yet, but didn't really try that good since I just had a working version.
Look for all the features & screenshots here:

http://modscape.telefragged.com/q2max/

If you try building it, take the source file, the others are Windows binaries.
