|
|
hello everybody,
recently i've upgraded my kernel from 2.6.9 to 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 and my submount setup stopped working. i use subfs to mount cd/dvd as well as memory stick. i'm pretty sure that my /etc/fstab has the same entries at before. all i get is erros in syslog:
Code: | subfs: submountd mount failure. |
i can mount all my removable media by issuing mount command manually.
nothing beside that pure message from submountd.
i haven't tryed to fall back to 2.6.9 yet but it seems that this is the only thing left for me to get it back.
has anybody experienced similar problem?
cheers
PS. problem solved by making symlink /usr/sbin/submountd -> /sbin/submountd. somehow, subfs source has "/sbin/submount" hardcoded but emerge installs it into /usr/sbin/. submount-0.9-r1.ebuild

Nope, I suggest you look into the DBUS/HAL/Ivman trio. It's the way things are going to go in future, and it's working well enough that people aren't going to be totally upset if the newer kernels break support for old methods like supermount/submount. _________________ What are you, stupid? |

You are lucky, it does now.
And all that automatically .. no configuration needed. |

hm... ok, i'll give it a try once more but i really liked how submount worked and i don't like to change basic thinks like automounting so often.
please anybody who gets it working with 2.6.10{,-gentoo-r\d} kernel let me know that it's possible. |

Same symptoms here even with gentoo-dev-sources-r7, I think r5 worked fine, but I am not sure. Why did you put solved in the title? |

thanks. Great & easy fix - I really don't like the idea of switching to udev. |

Thanks for this info and the solution.
The symlink worked for me as well.
To get this fixed I created a bug, it has number 82153.
I have had very good experiences with this and encourage everybody to do the same if you find a bug!
You can go to https://bugs.gentoo.org .
You need to have an acoount and off you go!
Remember to search thoroughly if a bug has been submitted.
If it is not submit your bug and help making gentoo even better !
I also put this info in the subfs wiki:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Submount
To track this bug you can look here:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82153

thanks for reporting .. there was already a bug about it and it was already fixed in -r2. Now -r2 is stable on x86, you should not have this bug again now |

So I saw!
Well I could not find it when looking for submount and subfs, so I reported.
Glad it is solved, thanks!
