i810 agpgart failure + no drm :(

when i startx, it works, but if i shut it down, and try to startx again. i get a GARTInit error, saying it cant find a the file, saying agpgart support aint available
and it wont work again till i reboot

now, i have agpgart as a module loaded, and its there in /dev
i tired rmmod but sez its busy, so i cant reload it
ive seen this problen described elswhere on the forum, but no solutions
anybody got one?

also, i cant get the drm to work, and the drivers from dri.sourceforge wont compile... this is getting out of hand, cause i have a fear its one of those wierd errors nobody knows how to fix

anybody gotten past this trouble? is there something im missing? some kernel thingee i need to not have? or maybe try a vanilla kernel? which i dont wanna do

yeah thats not it

the drm works now that ive upgraded to xfree r11

but im still getting the GARTInit error when i try to startx after shutting x down
