|
|
I just purchased a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse (the optical one with 2 buttons and a roller ball/button). I love it (used it before at a job under Windows) but sometimes after leaving X back to the console I will get:
Quote: | === ERROR ===: [/var/tmp/portage/gpm-1.20.0-r5/work/gpm-1.20.0/src/mice.c(1771)]:
imps2: Auto-detected unknown mouse type 250, assuming standard PS/2
=== ERROR ===: [/var/tmp/portage/gpm-1.20.0-r5/work/gpm-1.20.0/src/mice.c(1771)]:
imps2: Auto-detected unknown mouse type 250, assuming standard PS/2 |
gpm appears to have crashed and I must zap it, manually delete the /var/run/gpm.pid file, and restart it (usually twice) to get my mouse working at the console again...
Have a feeling this has something to do with the interaction/transfer from gpm to X and back... but I wouldn't know where to go about starting to look for an answer...
Any ideas? |

How is your mouse section in the XF86Config ? _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

Code: |
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "imPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Resolution" "1800"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
EndSection

I can imagine a conflict here. Doesn't gmp makes a pseudo-device at /dev, something like /dev/gmp? If both gmp and xfree try to access the device at the same time, it may crash. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

Never had this sort of problem with my serial mouse... could CTRL-ALT-F1 to a console use it just fine, CTRL-ALT-F7 back to X (and after a variable delay) use the mouse just fine...
Reason I've avoided PS/2 for so long, they are pickier |

I have now... and read all the linked messages at the bottom as well. Now I understand the idea of /dev/gpmdata being a pass through device that you can tell X to use... sweet. I haven't tried it yet, as I don't seem to have NEARLY as many problems as others have described, but next time I'm down to console I will see about setting it up.
Thanks for the pointer. Guess I didn't search very well for this one. |
