Hi,
I just decided to emerge sendmail, and punched in
the command 'emerge --update --pretend sendmail'
which resulted in de following output:
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild N ] net-dns/hesiod-3.0.2
[ebuild N ] dev-libs/cyrus-sasl-2.1.10-r2
[ebuild N ] net-mail/sendmail-8.12.7-r2
Why for the life of me does sendmail depend on hesiod?
What if I choose to use a different DNS server?
Regards,
Toon. |

I'm not exactly sure. But its listed as a dependency, not a runtime dependency so it may just be that it's required for sendmail to compile. As far as I can see, there is nothing stopping you using a nameserver of your choice. |
