I am going to install gentoo on a 4th system. No more windows for me I have all of my kernels patched to the 2.4.19pre10 straight from the kernel.org site. Tested it out for a while and no strangeness. Pretty stable and it supports my Via chipset better than the 2.4.18. No latency.
Do you think it is better to patch the kernel during the install or should I do the install and then patch before emerging anything? Has anyone tried patching during the install? Any problems?
I will be trying this in a few days. I will definitely post the results!! _________________ Boricua Hasta La Muerte |

It doesn't matter when you compile your kernel in the install process, since you're not going to be using it until you reboot anyway. In many cases I'll start bootstraping, switch terminals, fetch my kernel sources, configure, build, and install all wile the other terminal is installing. |
