Posted: Fri Nov 19, 2004 7:29 am Post subject: AlBook AND iBook G4 Sleep patch released! |
|
|
NOTE: the latest gentoo sources (2.6.11) should already have the sleep patch applied.
It's that time of week again, and we've got the 7th version of the patch, there should be fewer lockups now. Benh has put in a workaround for cache corruption while he waits for freescale to get back to him. Let us know how it goes!
A new patch has been released by benh that allows sleep on AlBooks *AND* iBook G4. I've pixed the patch paths a little to make it easier for Gentoo users to use, get the patch at: http://dev.gentoo.org/~josejx/albook-ibookg4-sleep-7.diff.gz
Applies cleanly to gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.9-r4:
Code: |
cd /usr/src/linux
patch -p0 < /path/to/patch/albook-ibookg4-sleep-7.diff
|

Too bad Apple used an NVidia-Chip in the current
12" G4 Powerbooks.
So no sleep for me ...

When did he say that? I got the impression that the technique used to reverse engineer the ATI drivers could not be used for the Nvidia ones.
See this message for details. |

Sorry... I misunderstood this post:
Quote: | This is an experimental patch against 2.6.9. It concerns the ATI based
Aluminium PowerBook. The nVidia based ones aren't concerned at all, and
the iBook G4 will have to wait a bit more for me to get the video wakeup
code right. |

here:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1795346#1795346
is a post of an Italian pwbook owner that made the VGA out works with this kernel patch.
He did that:
patch the kernel with the sleep diff
load the kernel-sleep
put on an external monitor into VGA out cable
sleep the notebook
resume the monitor
Then he has a clone mode active.
I've noticed he don't use FBDev.
Is it possible to get this thing work? anyone can reproduce that?
Can you write to BenH to say this message, maybe it can be useful for a newer ibook-vgaout patch _________________ Alessandro Ronchi Home Page

Anybody else seeing black&white horizontal stripes in the root (X-background) after wake-up with 2nd patch applied?
Using the first patch it worked alright, it only started with the second patch.
Have fun* |

(On gentoo_dev_sources 2.6.9-r1 i had to copy again the file mentioned two posts above)
version 7 working fine
by the way, no more lock ups over here with this version
(only prob remaining, if you can call this a problem, rhythmbox has problems recovering from sleep, xmms no problem, my other apps all recover fine) |

When will there be support von kernel 2.6.10? Does anybody know? The new kernel now activates both fans of the Powerbook (and it does this in a smoother way!)

The next sleep patch will be against 2.6.10 I think, but I saw a message saying that benh is going on holidays, so I guess it wont be out until after he gets back.
By the way, much of the discussion about the sleep patch takes place on Debian's PowerPC list. |

You can try this updated patch: Code: | # wget http://dev.gentoo.org/~fafhrd/ppc/albook-ibookg4-sleep-7-for-2.6.10.diff.bz2 |
Note that "Your Mileage _Will_ Vary".
It patches cleanly against gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r4. _________________ jñanam bandha |

... just adding a note to say that the patch seems to work well after multiple sleep attempts. (don't think I made it clear that it does work above). _________________ jñanam bandha |

Well, the only thing that seems to have gone wrong is that backlight control doesn't seem to work -- but sleep still does.
If any one else with some kernel hacking experience wants to take a look at this patch as well, that'd be great.
Likely BenH will bang out a more official patch for 2.6.10 when he returns from his break or whatever. _________________ jñanam bandha |
