Hi, I have recently got a Raq3 to play with, and naturally wanted to install gentoo, however, upon following to read the intrsuctions to flash the rom:

Code:
raq:~/romutils# ./imagetool -i flash.rom -d flash.dir -e
4e4c5754345b55030e9ea4e8f471f98e  flash.rom
reading spec/cobalt-2M-flat.spec
extracting ROM flash.rom (2097152 bytes)...
bootsector saved in flash.dir/rom.bs (65536 bytes)
filesystem saved in flash.dir/rom.fs (2031616 bytes)
extracting filesystem flash.dir/rom.fs...
 flash.dir/monitor.bz2 (72952 bytes)
 flash.dir/vmlinux.bz2 (834890 bytes)

I only get:
Code:
./imagetool -i flash.rom -d flash.dir -e
d7dd46981510a8882738513cfa51b1dc  flash.rom
reading spec/cobalt-1M.spec
extracting ROM flash.rom (1048576 bytes)...
bootsector saved in flash.dir/rom.bs (65536 bytes)
filesystem saved in flash.dir/rom.fs (983040 bytes)
extracting filesystem flash.dir/rom.fs...

And on inspection I have found kernels in /boot on the hard drive:
Code:
ls -l /boot
total 2336
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root       469318 Apr  5  2002 System-2.4.16C12_III.map
lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           24 Jan 11 16:49 System.map -> System-2.4.16C12_III.map
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root       927253 Apr  5  2002 vmlinux-2.4.16C12_III.bz2
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root       988938 Apr  5  2002 vmlinux-2.4.16C12_III.gz
lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           25 Jan 11 16:49 vmlinux.bz2 -> vmlinux-2.4.16C12_III.bz2
lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           24 Jan 11 16:49 vmlinux.gz -> vmlinux-2.4.16C12_III.gz

Does this mean the rom is already updated? It has confused me a bit :(

Thanks.

EDIT:
I looks like it has Raq550 software on it(in the control panel thingy ), if this makes a difference?.

First, links...
Timothy Hockin's stuff on updating the ROM
My 2.6.x kernel patch for the Cobalt RaQ

If you're already booting a 2.4.x kernel, chances are good your ROM is already new enough. My thread has a general, if not very specific, howto for Gentoo on a Cobalt. Feel free to ask any questions.

Note: The stock config I have up should work fine for you.

If you're using my kernel patch you can also emerge the lcdutils package and get the ability to write to the LCD and read the buttons (buttons I've yet to write a different version to make it easier to use).

Back again, run into more problems, it seems my rom version is 2.9.36, so i have tried to flash it, but on trying to make the rom I get:
Code:
./imagetool -i flash.rom.2 -d flash.dir -s cobalt-2.10.3-ext3-1M.rom -c
Number found where operator expected at cobalt-2.10.3-ext3-1M.rom line 3, near "11 08"
        (Missing operator before  08?)
Bareword found where operator expected at cobalt-2.10.3-ext3-1M.rom line 3, near "36 MST"
        (Missing operator before MST?)
Number found where operator expected at cobalt-2.10.3-ext3-1M.rom line 3, near "MST 2004"
        (Do you need to predeclare MST?)
Unrecognized character \xFF at cobalt-2.10.3-ext3-1M.rom line 4.
Compilation failed in require at ./imagetool line 237.

I'm pretty lost as to what to do right now :(

Wow, this is all in my thread... But, I'll post it again. Goto ftp://ftp-eng.cobalt.com/pub/users/thockin/2.4/ and read the README. This will tell you what you need to do. Tim also has the flashrom utility in there, use it.

Jeff
