|
|
With 2.6.10-r2 my console screen goes blank immediately after silo starts loading it up.
I have been using 2.6.9-r13 for quite a while and i haven't changed the kernel config
in a very long while (since 2.6.1 days).
The machine boots fine though (i can log in thru the serial port, hooked up to my laptop
running hyperterminal). So it has something to do with the way 2.6.10 treats my console.
I have a Blade150 with ATI Mach64 video card.
Looking in syslog, i see the following difference between 2.6.9 and 2.6.10
With 2.6.9-r13:
Console: colour dummy device 80x25
Console: switching to mono PROM 80x34
Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 160x64
With 2.6.10-r2:
Console: colour dummy device 80x25
Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 80x30
So what gives? How come 2.6.10-r2 never tries the "mono PROM 80x34" setting,
and it switches to something called 80x30 instead of 160x64?
My kernel config has not changed. Just in case, they are:
For console support:
[*] PROM console
│ │ <*> Framebuffer Console support
For Graphics support:
[*] Support for frame buffer devices │ │
│ │ [*] Enable Video Mode Handling Helpers
.....
<*> ATI Mach64 display support │ │
│ │ [*] Mach64 CT/VT/GT/LT (incl. 3D RAGE) support │ │
│ │ [ ] Mach64 generic LCD support (EXPERIMENTAL) │ │
│ │ [ ] Rage XL No-BIOS Init support │ │
│ │ [*] Mach64 GX support
[*] PCI framebuffers │ │
│ │ < > Virtual Frame Buffer support (ONLY FOR TESTING!)
Do i need to enable/disable some kernel option(s) for 2.6.10?
Thanks,

Thanks mriya. I feel a bit disconcernted that that thread doesn't
show up if i search the forums with the string "2.6.10". Might have
saved me a lot of time. Or am i missing some simple search tricks?
If someone can close this thread as dup of that other one, would
appreciate it.
Thanks again. Gotta love the forums!
