There are rumors that ibiblio is overloaded. The transfer rates are really slow (around 10KB\s). Maybe that's causing that too.
Try one of gentoo's mirrors
just add the following line to make.conf: Code: |
GENTOO_MIRRORS="<mirror>
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo"
|
changing <mirror> to the mirror's URL that you have chosen.
Good luck,

today I got the same problem for a second, and attempted to go to the mirrors page..
However, none of the mirrors looked anything like http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo
meaning they didn't lok anything like <server>/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo
they were all just www.domain.org etc... Plus that page also looks like its a place for ISO images.. is there somewhere that has a page of specifically rsync mirrors?

Hi,
You'll have to search in the directory tree of a mirror, and find the one directory that has distfiles, gentoo-sources releases, snapshots, etc...
That's the url that you have to add to GENTOO_MIRRORS.
Now about the rsync mirrors...
They're not listed, but you can try and find a mirror in your country. For instance, if you wanted a mirror in Portugal, you would define the SYNC variable in /etc/make.conf has:
Code: | SYNC="rsync://rsync.pt.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" |
pt for Portugal. Generaly it would be:
Code: | SYNC="rsync://rsync.<2 letter country code>.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" |
If you get an error, than probably, there's no official rsync mirror in your country.
Good luck,

You can also do a quick check for your (and neighboring) countries with ping:
Code: |
ping rysnc.ca.gentoo.org
|
If the address resolves (you probably won't get any packets back), then the host exists, and you can probably rsync to it.
If you have dig or traceroute you can have even more fun |

I don't really care about the rsync speed... But I did add a mirror for retrieving files which is what was really slowing me down. thanks! _________________ Open your mind. Open your source.
