I'm getting the following errors while trying to install Hero Designer (character creator software from Hero Games).
Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive...
Configuring the installer for this system's environment...
dirname: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/bin/ls: error while loading shared libraries: librt.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
basename: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
dirname: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
basename: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
hostname: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Launching installer...
rm: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
rm: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have emerge lib-compat 1.1.
This software worked under RedHat 8.0
Thanks,

do you have libc.so.6 installed on oyur system? I would think you do, but it is better to check and be sure.
If you have something like libc.so.6.2 then you can try to make a sym. link Code: | ln -s target linkname | from the one installed.
I would give that a try |

I have exactly the same problem when trying to install IntelliJ Idea v3.01 (a java IDE that is)
I checked for libc.so.6 and librt.so.1 and found them in /lib
I checked /etc/ld.so.conf and "/lib" was not in there. I added it to /etc/env.d/00basic and executed "env-update".
Then I checked back /etc/ld.so.conf and "/lib" was added.
But still i get the same error messages (even after rebooting the machine)
Note: Yesterday I had a problem starting XWindows. I then also got an error on some libraries that weren't found.
adding the path to those libraries in /etc/ld.so.conf solved the problem.
Not this time unfortunately
I also found something similar in another forum when someone tried to install LimeWire.
There they suggested to open the .bin file in a text editor and adding this line:
Code: | unset LD_ASSUME_KERNEL |
I did that, but after this modification the installation routine told me there was something wrong
with the installation file and that I should download it again.
Anyone ?
Thanx,
Guy |

After posting my message to this thread, I came across another one here at the forums
which is more specific to my prob: IntelliJ Idea v3.01.
Maybe you should have a look at it too.
