Heres the USE portion of my Make.conf.
Code: |
USE="-kde -gnome -X -opengl" |
when i try to emerge php, i get this
Code: | plastic etc # emerge php
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 4) x11-base/xfree-4.2.1-r2 to / |
What can I do to stop this?
This box is a server with no need for X.
Any help is appreciated!

I consider it very likely that mod_php requires either gd or freetype or something, as it does using FreeBSD. I only use mod_php on FreeBSD, so let's assume it's the same as on Gentoo, more or less.
Freetype and / or GD have dependencies on X. FreeBSD offers a configuration dialogue for mod_php in which you can turn on or turn off options such as GD. Gentoo doesn't do this. I would say you do want GD and / or Freetype though, since a lot of PHP scripts, programs and CMS'es use GD-like functions. COnclusion: you will have to build X.
This doesn't mean X is automatically started at boot though |

try -* and see if it still happens, if it does there is no way around it if it dosn't try adding them back in one at a time. |
