|
|
As far as I can tell, this forum isn't using the latest stable branch of phpbb. According to this thread on phpbb's official forum, the latest release is 2.0.11
The forums used to say 2.0.6 on the footer of the page, but I see that has been removed and replaced with 2.0.x
Are we running the latest stable branch of phpbb? |

we're running a customized version of phpbb. The vanilla variant doesn't scale to the kinds of loads that we require. (especially when it comes to searching)

Well this is a bit confusing... First we have posts like these

And now you're telling us the forums are already using a customized version? |

I'm not talking about adding any "cool" features. For example, the search in its current state is severly crippled, and is causing a lot of moderating effort due to duplicate posts all over the place. There have been threads that discuss various improvements to the search and they've mostly been met with answers like this one:

Fair enough, but what about this one then?
Being able to search topic titles only would decrease the search load and make it easier to find what you're looking for. The whole point of my first post in this thread was that you and klieber were giving conflicting answers. |

Improving search is being looked into, though I haven't heard anything about it lately. I'll poke ian! for an update. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

We had to change the search code to help it scale more. The forums were literally collapsing under the load of the old code. We spent the time required to get it to a state where it was operational again.
That does not mean that we're going to invest hours and hours to make feature improvements to the search code. For that, we look to the phpBB maintainers. (or another software package if it comes to that.)
