I'm booting off a Live CD 1.4 when it says Beginning storage hardware detection scanning for aic7xxx.... it just sits there and locks hard any idea how to get past this? It's a Celeron 15 Ghz

You have to disable the scsi detection and network detection. Install proceeds fine after that. Hit F2 when the cd first boots and use the noscsi and nonet options.

You will probably have to modprobe 8139too to get builtin nic working after the CD finishes booting.

When I hit F2 to get the screen with boot options and type noscsi it says it can't find that kerne; image.

Hey I had the same issue with my toshiba 1900-301 running knoppix.
All you have to do it to pass in the "noscsi" parameter.

Are you running knoppix?
If so, then type: "knoppix noscsi" and hit return after booting the CD.

Make sure you read the whole screen that comes up after you hit F2. It tells you to type gentoo followed by a space and then whatever options you want.

Test the CD to see if it pass the CRC checksum.
