Hello, thought this might be a good place to start seeking a gentoo linux users group in Okinawa Japan. I'll be there either in March or June (I applied for an extension) and I will be there a minimum of 3 years.

Cheers and woohoo! .. Sunny weather!
Justin

Umm... It seems apparent you've never been there. Okinawa is a very small island with mainly farmers and USA military. I've never been on base because I'm not from USA. But outside the base is nice too - IMHO. All to say, there is a very small chance you will find gentoo users there - maybe on base.

Not a problem then, so long as I can get some highspeed internet I'll live. (I run several web sites from my server).

I am in the Air Force and have several family members that have been stationed there, but ironicly, two of them now work for MS so we don't speak much. heheheeh

Thanks for the reply,
Justin

P.S. I have yet to meet another person in the Military that truly uses Linux (many have tried).

I'm quite sure you'll get fairly high speed connection on base. I don't know if it's fast enough for web sites though. Bases in Japan are quite nice. I've been to one in Zama. My friend got me on. Just be careful not to piss off the local people. You probably already know this. Some of them don't really like the base there in Okinawa.

Well then, have fun in the sand and the sun.

I've bumped into several Linux users from Yokota AFB at Tokyo LUG meetings. And this guy doesn't just "use" Linux.

Just remember there's life outside the base. If you'll be stationed three years there, I suggest you make your stay more pleasant by contacting the Okinawa Linux User Group. Getting involved with them should bring your Japanese up to speed in no time at all... :D 日本語を勉強しないとだめなのよ。

Cheers,
Justin
