Why isn't the Kernel patched with i2c and lm_sensors2? Everytime I am installing a Gentoo Kernel I have to patch it with i2c and lm_sensors2. I guess I am not the only one who uses i2c and lm_sensors2.

Nothing wrong with patching it yourself, but maybe should want to post this message in the gentoo suggestion forum.

The vanilla kernel source is all i use and i have i2c and lm_sensors 2.63 woring just fine...

You do have to flip the "prompt for development code" switch though, I think. But you need that for devfs anyway....

to be more specific, the standard kernel 2.4.18 has the i2c (i think 2.6.2) incorperated, so also the vanilla ebuild has it. I find it usefull to have the sensors patches added to the kernel so I can just compile them into the kernel instead of using the modules. But he, that's just me

Well... everytime I am installing a new Kernel I am installing i2c's and lm_sensors2's CVS code into the kernel. It would be nice if the standart version would be allready in the Kernel so that 'we' do not have to do it :D

Like I said, i2c is in the vanilla 2.4.x sources - has been since 2.4.5 or so... lm_sensors is a separate user application, and yes, you do need to recompilie it for new kernels.

Once i2c and whatever else is to your fancy in your kernel, become friends with "make oldconfig."

let's say it like this. the vanilla Kernel has only a small part of the i2c stuff. If you patch your Kernel with the latest Version the list gets longer way longer....
