I setup my laptop with Gentoo. It runs pretty well and faster than any other linux.
Unfortunately, the result of glxinfo shows the direct rendering is off. The result of glxgears, guess what!, only 240.
How to turn it on? I think the chipset is Radeon M6 and choose the ATI Radeon as the driver when compiling the kernel. Then set XF86Config the driver name 'radeon'. X is started fine. But.... |

Direct rendering needs to be enabled in the kernel...
Check there first. From memory its in the "Character Devices" section. |
