Ok, I found a few other threads talking about this, but none of them had a resolution it seems. Some suggested a special CD. However, I have a bit more to add in my case. Most people found they could still boot solaris CDs. I don't have any of those, however, I did download and burn FreeBSD for Sparc and it booted and installed w/out a hitch. And I used the same process for burning that CD to burn my Gentoo CD.
Gentoo, obv, doesn't boot and gives me the bad magic number error.
Anyone have any ideas on this? |

If you download and burn up (for free, from sun.com) some solaris9 install CDs (just get cd1 and cd2, no need for the "install disc") and use them to do a real basic solaris install (to be wiped out and replaced if you wish) the soliaris installer as the final step will fix your bad magic number problem automagically.
Make sure you get solaris9 4/04 or later, as earlier releases did not do the automagic fix..... _________________ -Tim Smith |
