Hi.
Trying to run Galeon yield a large number of
"Application was compiled with png.h from libpng-1.0.12
Application is running with png.c from libpng-1.2.1"

How can this be? I installed mozilla and then Galeon, and it should get and update the packages if needed, right?

The problem is that you are running an updated libpng, one that is newer then that you compiled mozilla and galeon with.

Try running mozilla and looking at a png, if it fails to display it properly, then recompile mozilla. Then try galeon again, it should display the pngs now, but if it doesn't, recompile it too. I had the same problem. emerge -u world isn't always your friend.

I'd call this a bug then. wouldn't you? otherwise emerge starts to look like "rpm --force" oops! i broke it now.

It may not be galeon or mozilla that are directly causing the problem but one of the shared libraries that they are linked to. gdk-pixbuf is a likely candidate. Spider has posted some information regarding this to the mailing lists recently.

Hi again.
I have tried to comple Mozilla, galeon and now pixbuf but i still get a LOT of error-msg when trying to run Galeon. The good part is that it is running now, that did change with the pixbuf recompile. I know that I have 1.2.1 installed (emerge search libpng) ; shall I try to do an "emerge galeon -emptytree"? Is it possible that it could work? (the time, oh the time... :( )

Going from bad to worse...
To make a "emerge -e galeon" was not a good idea, it messed up gnome bad! Doing a "emerge -e gnome" was better, but now i have messed up icons (that is no at all) and still the same problem with galeon... libpng-1.0.x bust be still there in the system, messing it all up!
If a emerge -u world (or in this case only gnome) does not do the trick, what does? I'd hate to reinstall the system to get it right, hate it alot!!!

HELP ! ! !

Make it as simple as possible...
I did an emerge -C libpng erasing two versions, 1.0.x and 1.2.x...
After that, all i had to do was to emerge libpng and voila - running good again...
