To the devs it may concern: Until I commented out the two lines, I was unable to login in new X sessions under :1. With the lines commented out, I still get
Code: | su: PAM pam_putenv: delete non-existent entry; REMOTEHOST |

Confirmation, this buggy crap _was_ the issue that has been preventing me starting X for most of the last week.
It has wasted a lot of time for a lot of users in different contexts.
PLEASE GET THIS MARKED AS UNSTABLE AND MASKED IN PORTAGE.
This should not even have been unmasked in this state.
For portage to be useful it has to be reliable. I cant list each package and emerge one at a time and then do a full system test in between to see if everything still works.
Obviously things will slip through from time to time, but nearly every time I do emerge -uDav world I have to go through this. The best part of a day wasted scouring the forums for clues as to what has broken.
This time was particularly bad because it hit X and made finding the cause a lot harder.
There also should be a sticky about this until it gets cleared , it obviously hit a lot of people.

Situation is (or is it? ) this:
Before pam update, /etc/security/pam_env.conf had only commented lines and no actual code in it. After updating pam, somehow 3 lines got uncommented and it b0rks something. Comment all three lines, so there's no actual code in it, only commented lines. I think it's safe to do, because those lines were commented before. |

I had the same problems and commented out the same 3 lines of text. I am not sure if this will improve my system performance...I can only hope |

I commented all 3 lines out. Gets rid of the messages, but I still can't log in. KDM says X refused me. This may require a bit more digging. _________________ SECOMGroup - Lineman.net
