Recommendation: Improve Gentoo Forums with recommendations

The following idea is from another forum I frequent and it works very well over there. (I realise this might not be part of phpbb so could be a dud suggestion)

The idea is that each poster has a daily allocation of recommendations that they can use to 'recommend' useful and informative posts. The reason the daily allocation is limited is to avoid the you rec me I'll rec you scenario. The most highly recommended messages can be displayed on a best of forum?

This also has the added benefit of making it easier to separate the wheat from the chaff when trying to find information on the forums. And can also be used to identify the valuable contributors, i.e. rewarding posters for quality vs. quantity.

As a "n00b" it is disconcerting to realise that "l33t" means nothing of the sort, it actually means frequent poster? (especially when following "l33t" advice )

The general policy is not to do anything on the forums that costs extra maintenance. If your suggestion is implemented in the phpBB standard, it might be used, but if it isn't in the standard phpBB release, that would hardly happen.
