I have the domain lodbot.com and I setup a subdomain ftp.lodbot.com which is just a url redirect to ftp://myip I am just using my registrar's DNS stuff because I don't have any DNS servers yet. if I goto ftp.lodbot.com, I get an error that says:

Code:
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.

Details:
The operation timed out.

but if I goto ftp://myip it works! I'm almost sure that its because my dns stuff isn't setup right, but I just wanna make sure that that is the only reason.

Thanks,

Rain

Why dont you point ftp.lodbot.com directly to the IP of the ftpserver instead of using url forward? It would be a much better idea since url forward opens the url its forwarded to in a frame (at least i belive it does so ). If you use internet explorer i think you should be able to connect to the ftp if you use url forward, but a ftp client can get some trouble to connect to it. Im not completley sure what im talking about, but try to point ftp.lodbot.com to a IP instead.

I tried running the subdomain ftp.lodbot.com to my ip with an A-Adress as apposed to a url redirect. Still getting the same error  I am almost sure that its because my dns stuff isn't setup properly. I just wanted to make sure of that before I go out and pay for 2 dns machines.

Thanks,

Rain

When did you change to an A-Adress? You know that you can have to wait up til 48 hours before changes will take effect? Still think its strange that it dont work thoug, i point a subdomin to my IP and both web and ftp works fine.

sometimes u can just wait (as pipan said), but you can make sure that uve done everyting right and *have* to wait ...
