...and then run a d-link adsl modem off it? Seems less risky than buying a PCI p.o.s winmodem and having it not work at all.
Anyone get results throwing a USB card into an ultra 5 or 10?
Cheers,

You can definately use a USB card, and most common devices will work... Chances are, if it works on x86, and the driver is selectable in the kernel config, it should work... |

I have >somebrand< USB2.0&FW card with VIA 6212/63nn.
It won't work. Atleast I haven't got it work. And I've updated OPB.
This is for U10. _________________ /tmp. |

I was gunna go for this...

I read somewhere people have had luck getting the NEC chipset usb cards to work in U5/10's using solaris, so it just might work with gentoo.
Either way, once it arrives ill let u know what happens.
Cheers

Nec could be fine, I think. VIAs problem is that U10 cannot find it even on boot.
All the PCI-slots says Nothing Here.
When I put SB Live! on, it will be found immediately. That tells me, that slots works. _________________ /tmp. |

Emphii,
If your card is a newer revision of PCI (for example, if it is a 3.3v card instead of a 5v card) it will not work in older PCI systems, including the Ultra10. This would cause it to show up as "not there".

Hmm. This one have two keyholes.
Anyway it's 1394/USB2.0 PCI combo card with VIA chips (VT6212 & VT6306) and it didn't even show up on boot, while diag-switch? was set to true.
I bought PTI-213C USB2.0+IEEE1394 combo PCI card from dtk Computer brand and it's up and running.
It has NEC's chips.
This PTI was approx 40 Eur in Finland.
Now I'm searching how to change to usb-mouse, because it's optical wheel mouse. _________________ /tmp. |

Belkin 3 port USB 2 adapter works fine in my U5, 2 ports on the back, one on the front of the card.
I'm now looking for a cable so I can poke a hole in the front of the case to make the third port available. |

Belkin was one candidate in my list, but little expensive one, so I made decicion to find cheaper card.
And I wanted combocard with USB2.0 & FireWire (Belkin 110Eur now 42Eur).
Well, this PTI is now running, except I haven't got mouse wheel working (Logitech M-BJ58 optical 3
button usb\ps/2 mouse) and fw-port testing is still issue. I'm trying to find some program, which
captures video from these ports, but Cinelerra is little complicated (bootstrap.c causes bus error
after compiling). _________________ /tmp. |
