1.if i configure by myself,will i break the dependence?
2.i emerge something,but it will download gnome,i didn't use it at all,can i ignore it?!if i can,what command?

ad 1) if u install manually the configure will probably complan about dependencies, u can try however, i do this sometimes when the dependencies are too strict to my liking. u can also modify the ebuild scipt itself /usr/portage/... but this can really break some things, be sure that u know what u are doing...
ad 2) see above and: it depends very much on the program u try to install. usually u need the other programs (they <hint>DEPEND<\hint> on it)
best advice i can provide: if u dont like the way portage handles the package, grab the sources and do a manual installation _________________ To an engineer the glass is neither half full, nor half empty - it is just twice as big as it needs to be. |

right now i know what it is.and how to do.thanks a lot!
i modified my make.conf.
and i open " mcpu=i686 -03- pipe"
but i wanna know what is the difference between mcpu and march?which one is better?
