Help! Has anyone else seen probs with gcc after latest updates?

Last night (1/10) I did an 'emerge -u world' and now my system is a total mess.

First my 'gcc' executable disappeared, and I tried making a link from /usr/bin/gcc --> /usr/bin/i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc and this seemed like it was going to fix things until I got:

Code:

/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.2/../../../../i386-pc-linux-gnu/bin/as: error while loading shared libraries: libbfd-2.13.90.0.4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

'Making a link from libbfd-2.13.90.90.4.so to libbfd.so again gets me a little further but then:

Code:

/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.2/../../../crt1.o: could not read symbols: Memory exhausted

Can someone shed any light on what happened here?

I did an 'emerge -p -u world' first, to see what would be built, and there was a TON of stuff - 'like 20+ ebuilds..

I dont know what to do here - I cannot build anything at this point..

I've taken out my makeshift links and I dont have any idea how to get my system working again..

Things had been functioning _flawlessly_ for months up until this point!

Help!

'Another hour of so of messing around, and this is fixed it seems. Running the following command:

Code:

 gcc-config i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.2.1

'and making a link from /usr/bin/gcc -> /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.2/gcc did it!

:P

In case anyone else runs across this thread, I think an env-update might have solved your problem as well:
