What do you mean it wont resize? Use ImageMagick.
| Code: | | bash$ mogrify -geometry 1280x1024 picture.png |
That will resize the image for sure. |
He means it won't scale. So using imagemagick is a bit overkill when you bg-setting programn can scale the image for you... _________________ Of course I don't know everything, if I did you wouldn't be calling me theBlackDragon, but God...

You have to have /usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon running in the background, and you have to use /usr/bin/gnome-theme-manager to choose a different icon theme. You can drag theme tarballs from nautilus into your gnome-theme-manager window to install them, or you can manually untar GTK themes into ~/.themes and icon themes into ~/.icons. |
Actually, I have found what may or may not be a better way to do gtk themes in fvwm. Instead of using gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-theme-manager. I use xfce4. I make the xfce-mcs-manager startup when fvwm starts up. Then I use xfce-setting-show to pick a theme. It works great. I really like the xfce-curve theme anyways. |
Thanks for your info this worked great. /me is very happy now _________________ Linda: "The holiday season is time of celebration for most but it is also the time to remember the tragic suffering of the less fortunate."

Perhaps this has been answered before (I'm not sure how to search within a thread) but is there a way to use svg icons in my dock and menus? I know I can use idesk for the root window, but I'm hoping to use svg for all my wm graphics. _________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid."

Ok, I'm not happy with XFCE4 and I'm gonna switch back to FVWM. I have some neat ideas.
I was wondering if I could maybe use the xfce4-panel with FVWM? Like when I hit minimize on the FVWM decor it would actually minimize in the panel and not become some icon or something. _________________ -Ruzbeh

Just wanted to let you guys know I modified three OpenBox pipe menu scripts to work with FVWM. There's an ACPI menu which lets you see temperature, cpu speed, remaining battery and control the cpu frequency scaling. A Gmail menu which tells you how many emails you have and can open gmail in your browser, and an emerge menu which gives you the output of emerge -uDp world and lets you update one or all of the packages.
You can see screenshots here:
ACPI
Emerge
You can get them here:

Okay, I got some grand ideas for my FVWM, but I need to know a few things.
True transparency for the root menu? edit: DONE
Shadows for text? (titlebar text) edit: DONE
And multipixmap for the titlebars, gonna do some searching. edit: DONE!
Anyone know if it's possible to get _REAL_ transparency in the titlebars? _________________ -Ruzbeh

Not a problem, you can use .png images for titlebars, so just create a semi-transparent one and use it. _________________ Always cut the deck if it ups your odds. |

Noone answered me on irc, so maybe someone will know here
In my config i have:
| Code: | EwmhBaseStruts 0 0 20 0
Style * EWMHUseStrutHints, EWMHPlacementUseWorkingArea |
With the Maximize command windows are maximized and do not cover the 20pixels at the top, so it's ok.
But with:
| Code: | | Maximize growonwindowlayer grow grow |
the 20 pixels are covered; this should only happen if the ewmhiwa flag was specified. Is this a bug or i missed something ? |

Sorry, I thought it was a simple case of drawing a transparent image, but there is a default colour behind it that you need to get rid of too (I think that's what's up). I've never done it myself but have a look here for a screeny with a semi-transparent title-bar. In the comments below is a link to his config file.
Hope that helps. _________________ Always cut the deck if it ups your odds. |

Hi guys, seeing as this thread (or better, these threads) continues to be popular I thought it might be a good idea to put up a forum for fvwm on it's own as that would greatly improve the searchability of the posts...
I have the necessary hosting, which I think will be sufficiënt (if necessary I can always upgrade the capacity etc.)
Now is my question twofold:
First: would anybody be interested in a separate fvwm forum?
Secondly: I was wondering about the layout, I thought about giving important modules separate forums but I'm not sure about which include... FvwmButtons, FvwmEvent are very good canditates I think but I'll wager there are more good candidates...
FvwmScript is going to get a separate section which will be about Fvwm scripting.
So basically I have this layout:
General:
- News
- The Tavern (general chat)
Basic questions:
- Installation
- Newbie questions
Configuration:
- FvwmScript
- Other scripting
- General configuration questions
Fvwm modules:
- FvwmButtons
- FvwmEvent
- ...
Tell me what you think _________________ Of course I don't know everything, if I did you wouldn't be calling me theBlackDragon, but God...

Have you tried specifying a different size in your fvwm2rc? I don't have access to my fvwm2rc atm due to my box being b0rked, but you could search the fvwm manpage for "xft".

At this moment I have a basic forum up on http://fvwm.lair.be.
It's still very basic and such, but it's a start I'd say
Any comments, suggestions or other related things can be mailed to admin at lair.be or posted on the forum in "About the forum". Thanks in advance for any feedback you might have. _________________ Of course I don't know everything, if I did you wouldn't be calling me theBlackDragon, but God...

| I posted earlier in this thread but don't know how many saw it. There is now a site up for the Gentoo Community at www.splatbox.org which features themes configs for openbox, fluxbox and fvwm where you can have your fvwm configs posted and available for download theres also howtos section and more anyway I'll ask init if he wouldn't mind setting up a forum. The main thread is in gentoo chat |

I've a problem with my title bar too. It isn't the title, but the buttons that are misplaced. They are all some pixels too low. I tried to change a lot of things in the relevant section, but nothing helped.
| Code: | DestroyDecor Default
AddToDecor Default
+ TitleStyle CenterJustified Height 24 -- flat
+ ButtonStyle 1 \

ActiveDown (Pixmap aqua/AquaBlue.xpm -- flat) \
Inactive (Pixmap aqua/AquaGray.xpm -- flat)

And it looks a lot better on my other box, with a 1280x1024 resolution. This laptop runs at 1024x768. That's maybe the problem. Too bad I can't fix it. |
