Hi,
I am trying to install gentoo on sparcstation 5 for few days, still no success, getting all kind of problem during compilation.
Currently I using livecd to install and following this document
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-sparc-quickinstall.xml
system is very slow, it takes long time to compile
Is there per build ISO image I avialbe for this hardware.
Code: | SPARCstation 5, No Keyboard
ROM Rev. 2.24, 64 MB memory installed, Serial #8255838.
Ethernet address 8:0:20:7d:f9:5e, Host ID: 807df95e.

My expiriences with SS5 were that OpenBSD (IMHO) is best choice, followed by NetBSD on 2nd choice.
I will always prefer *BSD on < ultrasparc and only consider and use linux on >= ultrasparc.
You could give debian a try, that is already compiled and does not take ages to try and install on a ss5.
Gentoo on desktop systems is (@moment for me) the ideal choice, but the SS5 sure thing can't statisfy this need (too slow and only 8bit graph support) and thus does provide some network services for me using OpenBSD. |
