Hi, I have a Ultra 1 and want to try Gentoo on it. Fails to boot the disc I burned from the "install-sparc64-minimal-2004.2.iso" I downloaded.
Gives me an "SILO Fast Data Access MMU Miss" error".
My experience is limited using this computer but I have been able to install Aurora Linux (easy as an i386) and reinstall Solaris 8 both of which are functional.
I have read the posts on this issue, including the following:
"1.) Find the image "gentoo-sparc-1.1a-r2.iso" on the net and burn it. I got it from here: http://ftp.hol.gr/mirror/gentoo/releases/build/1.1a/
2.) Boot this cd and at the silo-prompt insert the new gentoo 2004.2 cd, then type:
Code:
/boot/gentoo-2.4 initrd=/boot/gentoo-2.4.igz root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc looptype=zisofs loop=/zisofs cdroot "
And I have tried to make this happen by booting from the Aurora disc and typing the above at the SILO prombt, but it just boots into the Aurora installation.
Any other ideas? Thanks, Jon |
