I've just swapped an Abit KR7A-RAID (Via KT266A) for an Asus A7N8X Deluxe (nForce 2), and I keep getting seg faults during almost everything I do. I've tried using several different gentoo-sources and lolo-sources kernels, but it doesn't seem to help. I've also had several messages saying something like "Can't handle kernel null pointer dereference" or something similar, followed by a stack dump. The only way I can get things to work reliably is to boot from the 1.2 install CD I have and chroot to the 1.4 install. Windows seems to be working fine, I formatted it and clean installed so it wouldn't screw up, but I didn't think I had to do the same with Linux. Is there some sort of procedure I have to follow to account for the change in mobo? I'm not using most of the onboard stuff at the moment, so I don't have to worry about audio, net (56k here ), SATA drivers etc. I'd really appreciate any help.. |

did you change processor as well?
if you did, this could be a problem if your software
was compiled specificly for that architecture and that processor. _________________ mush keeps the dream alive |

I did change processor, but it was from XP 1900 to XP 2700, so I didn't think that would cause any problems. |

Not answering your question but regarding your old setup. Are u sure it was the motherboard causing the faults and not the CPU? I have the same Motherboard (KR7A-Raid) with cheapo 512Mb RAM and 1800+ cpu and i'm not having any problems |
