Sun Ultra 5 Gigabit Ethernet

Hi All

Googled this one without luck and the discussion forums on sunsolve seem to have disappeared.

Does anyone know which if any third party Gigabit NICs will run on my lovely Gentoo powered Ultra 5?

I certainly don't have experience with this, but theoretically, any PCI card which has a driver in Linux should work on any PCI-platform. For example, I have heard of success from people running supposedly x86-only PCI network cards in Macintosh computers. So theoretically, it should work fine.

Does anyone have more concrete experience to offer than this?

I'm using an Intel e1000 card on an E450. Seems to work good if you only have one. if you have 2, you will get a bunch of warnings in your log but they still work.

I've tried multiple times to make a PCI NIC go in an ultra5, each time to no avail.

The card is seen by lspci, modules load, ifconfig attaches and even gives an IP....

... but no packets actually get sent or recieved ... otherwise known-good network setup, etc etc etc.

Dunno if its an ultra5 problem or a linux problem or what....
