|
|
| Hi all. I want to search for articles that deal with, say, "/etc/limits". However, search doesn't appear to like this, perhaps barfing (well, ignoring) on either "etc" (it's a stopword), or the "/"es. Is there a proper way to search for such items? |

If you are talking about the forum's search tool... PhpBB's search tool capabilities are limited... i have been experiencing search problems too |

| It's sad, since, IMO, one of Gentoo's great strengths is its Forums - a giant knowledgebase, usefull for Gentoo users and GNU/Linux users in general. Without a good search function, the Forums become a lot less useful, and I predict that they'll become less trafficked if search isn't kept up to snuff. We're all used to Google now (spoiled by it?). But, I know resources are tight... |

Mmm, people have complained before... quite a lot of them in fact! You know that you can use google to search the forums anyway? Try this query: site:forums.gentoo.org /etc/limits. _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't appear to work - Google found no results. Just to make sure, I did successfully find other search terms that would have been filtered by the Forums search (like "/etc"), but not "/etc/limits".

Brilliant , I'll bookmark that Google now.
phpBB search is very basic and long, long overdue for a bit of work.
someone on one of these forums was going to look into it if he got permission from his employer: IBM.
Dont know what became of the idea.
Thanks for the google tip. Its also a damn site quicker to return the results.
