I've had this problem with my laptop and linux forever, so here goes.

I have a problem with Konqueror, and it happens mostly with webpages. When I view certain webpages I get all this stuff on the screen which looks like static on the T.V. I have noticed this happens more often when there are animations on the pages i.e. gifs or flash.

Here are some details:
Happens in all versions of kde 2.2, 3.0, and 3.1 betas

Happens with other versions of xfree 3.3.6, 4.2.0, and 4.2.1

This is on a laptop with an ATI Rage mobility chipset, and yes I have tried the Gatos drivers, they dont help either

This happens sometimes when viewing jpeg images

I also get this "static" in the scroll bars and in drop down menus. I've never seen this problem with other vid. cards, and it only seems to be a problem with kde. Google dosent seem to turn up anything relevant, and I'm not sure who I should submit a bug report to.

Please help, I think the static is frying my brain.

I get some similar static too, mostly when scrolling a webpage. I've mostly blocked that out now and didn't really notice it again until I saw your post.

I'm not so sure this is a KDE thing either since I use fluxbox. More likely its a driver or maybe a hardware issue. I will have to check whether this happens in Win2k too.

BTW I got the Rage Mobility M3

In the initial days of color framebuffers, vga cards, etc., this was usually caused by a driver's lack of decent support for ram timing.. or running out of memory in general...

try changing your bit-depth temporarily to see if this has any effect
