I stopped by that site but was wondering if anyone has made any newer packages. Those ones are from beta2 I believe and beta5 came out today.

Yes you're right beta5 came out today.

Nope, no newer ebuilds...

As you might have noticed already gnome2 betas are coming out nearly every week.

It would be very time-consuming to build and test and update .ebuilds everytime a new beta comes out. So let's wait till June when gnome2 will be released.

ok the beta5 is out for gentoo. www.gentoo.org/~spider. For some reason I though the april 3rd date mentioned was the last release date for the packages. Maybe I should learn to read but I think I'm to old to learn that kind of stuff.

I have, make sure you have USE="png" or the build will fail. might want to add USE="jpeg tiff" if you want/don't have those defined

I built this on a seperate partition (mirrored first) though, so I don't know how well it plays with gnome 1.4.x Anyone have an stories about that?

a bit late perhaps, but yes, they play nice.
I'm using gnome 1.4 panel for ickle_applet and gnome2 stuff for just about everything else. it works nicely.
