I tried to emerge xfree and it wouldn't compile, and now I get an error when I try and emerge anything.

I ran "emerge sync" to see if that would fix anything and got this message after it downloaded the portage tree.

Quote:
>>> Updating Portage cache... :Traceback (most recent call last:
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 1444, in ?
shutil.copy(newdbkey,curdbkey)
File "/usr/lib/python2.2/shutil.py", line 62, in copy
copyfile(src, dst)
File "/usr/lib/python2.2/shutil.py", line 33, in copyfile
fdst.close()
IOError: [Errno 28] No space left on device

and when I try to "emerge nvidia-kernel" I get...

Quote:
Calculating dependcies portage: aux_get(): stale entry was not regenerated for media-video/nvidia/kernel-1.0.2880-r1; exiting.
!!! list index out of range

!!! Problem in media-video/nvidia-kernel dependencies.
!!! 1

I tried to emerge another package and I get the same message as for nvidia-kernel.

I installed using the stage 3 G4 1.4_rc3 tarball on a G4 iMac if that is of any help.

I would also like to know if there is any known reason that on all three attempts at installing Gentoo (different versions each time) xfree would not compile on my imac. I am new to 'ppc linux'.

Thanks a lot! :-)

It seems portage had filled up /var. So I have it using /usr for it's tmp folder now.

I didn't expect it to fill /var up for some reason. Guess I know better now.
