Display Asian character at console

Is it possible to display chinese character at console (not virtual terminal), and how to make it? I know redhat and some other linux distro can do this job. I serched through this forum, and only can discover topic about asian language support for some GUI.

According to the Preliminary Gentoo Chinese HOWTO can JMCCE (in portage app-i18n/jmcce) do the job in a framebuffer. But since I can't read these character stuff I can't read the pages and most hints there.
