Hello everyone,
Here's a strange one. When I try to play a dvd with mplayer it uses /dev/dvd which seems to be a link pointing to /dev/cdroms/cdrom1. This would be o.k., except for the fact that my dvd is /dev/cdrom/cdrom0.
All that's a simple mix up. What makes this strange, however, is that I cannot delete /dev/dvd and make a new /dev/dvd link it to the proper device. And yes, I'm trying to do this as root.
Here's what happens. What am I missing?
Code: |
su -
cd /dev
rm -f dvd
ls -l dvd
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 18 Dec 26 11:00 dvd -> /dev/cdroms/cdrom1
|
Thanks,
Seth |

are you running devfs? if so, take a look at /etc/devfsd.conf to see what device /dev/dvd is linking to, and edit to the correct device. |

Evidence,
Thanks for the tip. The dvd is set in devsfd.conf to point to the wrong device, but I'm going to have to study up a little on devfs before I make any changes. I'm not familiar with the devsfd.conf syntax.
