What is your default keyword in /etc/make.conf? ~arch oder arch, unstable or stable? Are you content with your choice? If not please don't vote.

I would like to know, if there is a reasonable amount of people on unstable in relation to stable and if it works more or less for them. I am planning to switch to unstable.

BTW, what is the best way to switch? Setting ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~arch" (~x86 in my case) and do a emerge -uD world?

I live dangerously and use ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" in /etc/make.conf -- and I have no reason to do otherwise.

I have a lot of unstable packages, but a stable system. Works like a charm, is stable and I can still use all the bleeding edge stuff I want to use.

As to your question, I think emerge -uD world should be sufficient.

Decided to go ~x86 a week or so ago, just for the hell of it. I very rarely have any problems with masked apps.

On one system: ~x86, with numerous exceptions in package.keywords.
On the other: x86-fbsd ~x86-fbsd x86 ~x86

I run stable on my servers and laptop, but I run unstable on my workhorse/desktop. I've only had minor annoyances in doing so.

I was using stable but my package.keywords was growing constantly so I switched to ~x86. Perfectly happy with it too :).

I also do in my home computer. I won't switch to ~x86 because I like having an stable base system.

~x86 because Mono isn't in stable yet and I can't be bothered to run a mixed setup.

x86, but with some packages from ~x86.
But now for each package I emerge, I try to use the latest version, even if it's in ~x86

Full ~x86 with some hardmasked packages (such as the Vim7 alpha snapshots and PHP 5/MySQL 4.1).

Cheers.

PC: Gentoo x86 with a mix of ~x86 (Gnome, though I see it recently went stable) and a select few hardmasked packages.
Server: FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE... not gonna mess around with cvsup on this box.
Mac: Tiger 10.4.1 + unstable WebKit for Acid2 compliance, and fink unstable (10.4-transitional).
