Heres a fun one... I went to disable distcc for a kde update, so I commented out all of /etc/env.d/05gcc. The emerge went fine, but emerge runs env-update aparently somewhere and my system has been trashed because LDPATH doesn't exist. I tried exporting the variable which doesn't seem to work, and changing /etc/env.d/05gcc doesn't help because I have to run env-update to use that, which needs a library from LDPATH. Any suggestions are welcome. Meanwhile, I'm going to go look for the sources code for env-update and see if I can make a static one or see what it does.
