|
|
I am using RC1 as of today and I get a weird change now, how would you deal with this to not show the blocking?
server ~ # emerge -Dup world
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[blocks B ] sys-kernel/linux-headers (from pkg sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1)
Just curious, I think the portage docs are of little use now with the update.
Thanks for the help. |

the linux-headers ARE NOT supposed to show up in World for that very reason, delete the linux-headers entry in /var/cache/edb/world
and when u update your linux headers, emerge with --oneshot so it doesnt get written into world file.
you dont want to unknowingly b0rk ur system because u updated ur linux headers and didnt recompile glibc...
[edit]
if u want to update ur linux headers, uninstall the old ones first, then emerge the new one |

/var/lib/portage/world - we're talking about 2.0.51 |

I checked the world file and the headers are not included in it. Any more ideas? I can post the world file etc. I think it is a bug in the new portage. |

Do you somehow have both linux26-headers and linux-headers? You could check with ls: Code: | ls /var/db/pkg/sys-kernel | If you have both headers, unmerge the old headers and then reemerge the 26 headers. |

Hmm I just did what you said, but portage always wants to emerge my old headers....
Code: |
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[nomerge ] x11-terms/xterm-191 -Xaw3d -debug +truetype -unicode
[nomerge ] sys-apps/utempter-0.5.5.5
[nomerge ] app-arch/rpm2targz-9.0-r2
[nomerge ] sys-apps/which-2.16
[nomerge ] dev-lang/tk-8.4.6-r1 -threads
[nomerge ] x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.0-r1 -3dfx +3dnow +bitmap-fonts -cjk -debug -debug -dlloader -dmx -doc -insecure-drivers -ipv6 +mmx +nls -pam -sdk +sse -static +xprint
[nomerge ] sys-apps/baselayout-1.9.4-r3 -bootstrap -build -debug -livecd -(selinux) -static -(uclibc)
[ebuild N ] sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.21-r1 -build 0 kB
|
As you can see it is a depency of baselayout... What can I do... or shall i install both? _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

It's a problem with xterm, I'd say. xterm has weird dependencies, I can't use emerge -uDp world anymore because xterm always tries to install xorg while I already have xorg-cvs. Unfortunately, removing xterm from the world file didn't have any effect, it still shows up in emerge -uDpv world, but it's NOT a dependency of any other package... Why? |

Try adding x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.0 to your /etc/portage/profiles/package.provided. That should fix xterm trying to pull in xorg-x11.
Note: The above only works if you're using a new portage. |
