|
|
I am rather suprised that no one else has noticed this (I did a forum search---really) but this could be a potentailly dangerous problem.
Today I was playing a game in X while doing an on a virtal console. Well, the game locked up my mouse and keyboard, and instead of ssh'ing to my machine from my server, and killing the offending processes, I thought, well, hell, I am running a fast computer and an XFS partition, why not just reboot?
Well, reboot I did, but my computer froze during boot up. It seems that the XFS partition had some sort of error that could not be fixed during the boot process. Fortunately, I have another partition I can boot into.
While doing xfs_repair, that program told me something about corrupt logs, then it told me to mount this partition, unmount it, and run xfs_repair again. After that, all was hunkey-dorey.
This is not the first time that this has happened, so I suppose I should have known better. Is there something that happens when portage is running that really messes with an XFS file system? |

I've beaten the crap out of my xfs partitions. I've had power failures during emerges, freezes while playing games, and a whole lot of other crap. I have never had any problems. Xfs must be a hit or miss thing. _________________
