|

My internet connection is now up and running. I can do wget ftp.redhat.com and it resolves the address and starts grabbing files, so I know that much works.
When I do emerge sync, (or emerge rsync or anything of the sort) I get the following error:
localhost bin # emerge sync
>>> Note: /etc/make.profile isn't available; an 'emerge sync' will probably fix this.
>>> starting rsync with rsync://cvs.gentoo.org/gentoo-x86-portage...
rsync: failed to connect to cvs.gentoo.org: Connection refused
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(89)
localhost bin #
I'm not sure where to look from here. I'm using the 16MB stage 1 iso.
Thanks.

I figured it out. You know that sticky message at the top of the form That was the problem. Even though I had read the message, since it was talking about a 1.0 release candidate I didn't understand that even 1.1a users needed to apply the fix. It dawned on me a little later, so now my virtual terminal is downloading away (and the rest of my system is still available).
I hope to see how the rest of it continues...
Thanks for your help everyone.
