Hallo,
since I tried to upgrade my system to gcc 3.2 I cannot rsync my gentoo system. My attempt to upgrade ended in the need to boot with cd and expand a stage-1 tbz2 over my system. My internet connection seems to work fine for surfing, e-mail etc. but emerge rsync gives me the following error:
...
sys-apps/baselayout/files/
sys-apps/grub/files/
sys-apps/portage/files/
rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(85)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (499968 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(150)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (499968 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(150)
>>> Updating Portage cache...
I'm connected to the net via ADSL(pptp).
Maybe someone can help me
Greetings,

What is the version number of the stage1 tarball you unpacked across your system, and have you successfully emerged any software since you did that? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Hallo,
no I'm not behind a firewall. As I said my internet connection seems to work "normal". I'm connected to the internet via a Alcatel ADSL 1000 modem which is connected to a PCI ethernet card.
When I configured my network I did NOT add a route for my ethernet card as I didn't know my default gateway. ( My provider told me to use default or none for gw). Maybe this could be the error. Further I configured my network card with Code: | /sbin/ifconfig eth0 10.0.0.140 broadcast 10.0.0.255 broadcast 255.255.255.0 |
I unpacked a stage1-ix86-1.2.tbz2 tarball and I can emerge additional packages (downloading and installing works fine).
I would be really great if someone could help me.

Could you give this script a try, even though you say you're not behind a firewall? It automates downloading of a daily portage tree snapshot without using rsync. It might at least tide you over until you figure out what's going wrong with rsync. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

I suggest you put this line in your make.conf
Code: |
SYNC="rsync://rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
|
or if you already have a sync statement in your make.conf just change it to that address.
It worked for me.[/code] _________________ I use a 33.6kbps dial up connection.
