I know I saw a posting on how to best upgrade an AMD64 system from gcc 3.3 to 3.4 and what CFLAGS to use for best optimization, but I can't find the post anymore. Can anyone either point me to the posting or give a quick explanation?
Thanks |

switch your profile (/etc/make.profile, the profiles are in /$PORTDIR/profiles) to an amd64 gcc34, it is somewhere in default-linux.
Add -march=k8 to your CFLAGS, emerge sync, emerge -uD world
Should be all
it should install gcc-3.4 and libstdc++. Everything should work then as before

I thought there was an "emerge -e" involved somewhere. Of course, when I tried that on an earlier install, ncurses got all bitchy and had to be given the pimp hand. |

as i know this is only needed when not installing libstdc++. i have not done emerge -e after switching the profile and everything works still.
perhaps someone else knows more about how to upgrade, in my case i just switched the profile and that was all.
