After an Emerge mplayer

After emerging Mplayer , is it enough to play DVD or DivX file ?

Do I had to emerge mpeg2vidcodec first ??

Because each time I launch mplayer , there are this error

Mplayer can't open '/root/.mplayer/codecs.conf'

you can copy the codecs.conf from /usr/share/mplayer/ to /root/.mplayer/

have you set dvd as a useflag? this is required to be able to dvd with mplayer. If not, add dvd to the useflags in /etc/make.conf and emerge mplayer again

I did what you recommend and now I can launch my dvd .
But I can only see the menu list.

There are still some soft missing . Now the error is

Can you explain what happens when you try to play a dvd once again, I didn't really understand

As I guess I was wrong with my command line that's why I could not launch properly the DVD .
That's why I asked for a help page .
