Is there a way to install .debs under gentoo - using emerge?

Or what is the best way to extract the embedded files and manually install.?

well, you can install RPMs by emerging rpm and using that...so I guess the software that let you install debs can also be emerged...though I forget what it is, so I cannot check at this time...

dpkg is debian, not gentoo. There is no dpkg or alien in portage. I need something that will ether install a .deb into a gentoo system, or allow me to extract the tar.gz embedded so I can do it manually.

I swore I did an emerge search before posting and saw both dpkg and apt in portage. But it's not there now, my mind must really be going.

If you can download and compile dpkg from Debian's site you can use dpkg -x to extract the files out of the .deb into a directory.

May not be the solution you need, but it's an option for you.
