I'm going on vacation to Belize, and wondering if anyone who lives/has been there has any advice.

www.belizee.com

Quote:
Welcome to
Belize, in Central America

The equestrian resorts offer good riding adventurers TOURSwithin their immediate countryside to places of interest . Those who like Guacamole Treks (Mayan Ranchos), Easy Rider is an independent operator who charges reasonable prices and gives good service for both experienced and inexperienced riders with ½ day and or full day rides.

Riding is usually great to jungle trails, river valleys and Maya Ruins.

Bird Watching:
Our feathered inhabitants are especially productive and abundant in the Mayan mountain pine ridge, natural parks, forest reserves, along the Macal and Mopan rivers. Also bird watching can be timely in remote reaches of Chiquibul Forest, Vaca Plateau. Lodges such as Black Rock, Chaa Creek, Chechem Ha, Crystal Paradise, Duplooy's, EKTun, Hidden Valley, Mountain Equestrian Trails, Clarissa Falls, and Pook's Hill Lodge all have large tracts of land where you'll likely find abundant wildlife and knowledgeable staff members. Most lodges can arrange for trips to productive areas with qualified experienced tour guides.

From what I've heard, Belize has some of the finest scuba diving in the world. I haven't been there myself, but I have a good friend who has. If you've got specific questions, rac, send me a PM and I'm happy to pass them along to him.

Have a great time! I've been, and the advice I offer: you don't need advice :) You would have to TRY HARD to NOT to have fun there.

Next trip you should try Bonaire

Are you diving? If so be sure to spend at least one day to go see some cool ruins or just to hike in the jungle.

Snorkeling, yes. Actual scuba diving, not planned. One goal is to see many tapirs and iguanas, those being some of the favourite animals of my traveling companion. We will be staying at Ambergris Caye.

I took a trip to Hawaii a couple years ago and the hotel I was staying at offered an ultra-beginner's guide to scuba diving. You spent 30 minutes in a pool learning the basics about your gear and that allowed you to go out in a supervised group up to 20-30ft underwater as long as you were within ~100 yards of shore.

I had an absolute blast and got hooked on it then and there. If you find a similar setup in Belize, you might consider giving it a whirl, just to see if you like it. (assuming, of course, that you haven't already tried it. :))

Huh? I thought all geeks had asthma!! Scuba is a no-no for those of us with asthma. I've been cursed with the slightest case (ie: i need an inhaler ~3x per year... all during allergy season). Scuba instructors don't care how severe or light the case is: NO SCUBA FOR YOU!
